EMPHASIS: Troop F Announces Results Of DWI Sobriety Checkpoint In Cole County

Captain Michael A. Turner, commanding officer of Troop F, Jefferson City, announces the results of a DWI sobriety checkpoint conducted in Cole County. The checkpoint was conducted from 11 p.m. on April 16, 2016, to 3 a.m. on April 17, 2016, on U.S. Highway 50 and Big Horn Drive in Cole County.

A total of 281 vehicles were checked during this operation. Officers made the following enforcement contacts:

6 -- DWI arrests
3 -- Driving while suspended/revoked arrests
3 -- Non-moving violation summonses
1 -- No insurance summons
6 -- Driver license violation summonses
2 -- Misdemeanor drug arrests
4 -- Warnings issued

“Driving while impaired continues to be a major contributing factor of traffic crashes on Missouri’s roadways. Removing impaired drivers from our roadways is a priority to the Highway Patrol, and we take that very seriously. Please drive safely and always designate a sober driver,” stated Captain Turner.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
