EMPHASIS: Troop I Prepares For The Labor Day Holiday Weekend

Captain James W. Remillard, commanding officer of Troop I, Rolla, MO, announces upcoming plans for Troop I officers to participate in Operation C.A.R.E. and a special enforcement operation for the Labor Day Holiday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) during the holiday. This means every available trooper will be on the road enforcing traffic laws and helping motorists in need of assistance.

Additionally, Troop I officers will be conducting a special enforcement operation to maximize visibility on Interstate 44 in the Troop I area on Friday, September 4, 2015 and Monday, September 7, 2015. During this enforcement program, troopers will be targeting all traffic violations with a goal of reducing traffic crashes over the holiday weekend.

"For many Missourians, this holiday weekend will mark the last family outing of the summer months, and we want everyone traveling on Missouri roadways to be safe," stated Captain Remillard. "Make sure everyone in your vehicle is properly restrained and never drink and drive. Should you be celebrating the holiday on the water, I want to remind everyone to ensure they are wearing an approved life jacket while in a vessel and don't operate a vessel while drinking. You must place an emphasis on safety!"

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
