EMPHASIS: Major Dale A. Schmidt Retires April 1, 2014

Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the retirement of Major Dale A. Schmidt, Q/SSB, after over 34 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Missouri. His retirement is effective April 1, 2014.

Major Schmidt was appointed to the Patrol on July 9, 1979, as a member of the 50th Recruit Class. After graduation from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was initially assigned to Troop A, Zone 2, Jackson County. In 1989, he was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone commander of Zone 8, Cass County. Schmidt was promoted to sergeant and designated zone commander of Zone 6, Jackson County, in 1993. He was promoted to lieutenant and transferred to Troop C, St. Louis, in 1995. In 2000, Schmidt was promoted to captain and transferred to Troop F, Jefferson City, where he served as troop commander. In 2010, he was promoted to major, transferred to General Headquarters, and designated commander of the Support Services Bureau. It is from this position that he retires.

Major Schmidt was born in Rolla, MO. He graduated from Steelville R-III High School in Steelville, MO, in 1973. He earned an associate's of arts degree in criminal justice from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO, in 1976. In 1997, he graduated from the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command. Schmidt graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy in 1998. He earned a bachelor's of science in criminal justice from Central Missouri State University in 2006. Major Schmidt and his wife, Debbie, have one son, Grant, and a daughter-in-law, Meghan.
