Captain John W. Elliott, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the Fourth of July holiday weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop B area, which consists of the 16 northeast counties of Missouri. During this holiday period, the Missouri State Highway Patrol participated in Operation Combined Accident Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E.).
During the 2008 Fourth of July weekend traffic crash counting period, which began on Thursday, July 3, 2008, and ended on July 6, 2008, Troop B officers investigated 17 traffic crashes, with six injuries, and no fatalities. Troop B officers made 16 arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 290 speeding citations and 88 seat belt citations, and assisted 104 motorists.
“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and always wear their seat belts,” stated Captain Elliott.
