EMPHASIS: Blood Drive To Be Held At Troop D Headquarters

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, wishes to invite the public to participate in the Corporal Michael E. Webster Memorial Blood Drive. The blood drive will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at the Troop D Headquarters, 3131 East Kearney Street, Springfield, Missouri. The blood drive is an event held to raise awareness about the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol. Cpl. Michael E. Webster was killed on October 2, 1993, by a drunk driver while standing next to a vehicle he had stopped for a traffic violation on US-40 in Blue Springs, Missouri. The Patrol, along with the American Red Cross, will host the Troop D blood drive to emphasize the seriousness associated with alcohol-related traffic crashes. Blood is an essential element, which may help to save someone’s life that has been involved in a traffic crash.

Someone is killed or injured in an alcohol-related crash every two hours in Missouri. Alcohol was involved in 28% of all fatal crashes during 2012. Drunk drivers killed 229 people and injured 3,869 in Missouri traffic crashes last year.

The Webster family, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the American Red Cross want to encourage everyone to come out and support the Corporal Michael E. Webster Memorial Blood Drive. Anyone who would like to donate blood may stop by the Troop D Headquarters or call (417) 895-6868 to schedule an appointment. For additional questions or to find other blood drive locations call Sergeant Jason Pace at Troop D or visit www.MEWEBSTER.org.
