EMPHASIS: Troop D Announces Results Of Sobriety Checkpoint And DWI Saturations

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted in Greene County and DWI saturations in Greene and Newton counties on December 15, 2012. The enforcement locations were selected based on their high number of drinking- and impairment-related traffic crashes and the large number of contacts with drivers who have been intoxicated.

During the course of the night, officers from the three enforcement efforts stopped 1,128 vehicles. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

DWI Arrests -- 14
Speed Violations --10
Seat Belt Violations --46
Hazardous Moving Violations --14
Non-Moving Traffic Offenses -- 22
Driver’s License Violations -- 22
Uninsured Motorists Violations -- 4
Misdemeanor Warrant Arrests -- 2
Drug Arrests -- 3
Warnings -- 185

“Driving drunk is simply not worth all the consequences,” stated Captain Villanueva. “Our message is simple and unwavering: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” To report a suspected intoxicated driver dial 9-1-1 or *55 on your cell phone.
