EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Cass County On September 23, 2011


Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Friday evening, September 23, 2011. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Cass County DWI Task Force, which includes the following agencies: Belton Police Department, Cass County Sheriff's Office, Raymore Police Department, Harrisonville Police Department, Garden City Police Department, Peculiar Police Department, and Cleveland Police Department. The checkpoint was held from 10 p.m. on Friday to 3 a.m. on Saturday and was located on Missouri Highway 58 at Missouri Route D. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 285 cars were checked during this five-hour operation. Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Cass County DWI Task Force made the following arrests:

3 -- DWI
4 -- driver's license summonses
4 -- uninsured motorist summonses
1 -- non-moving summons
2 -- misdemeanor warrant arrests
3 -- misdemeanor drug arrests
2 -- felony drug arrests

The officers also issued 31warnings.

The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated. To report a suspected intoxicated driver dial 9-1-1 or *55 on your cell phone.
