EMPHASIS: Patrol Announces Retirement


Colonel James F. Keathley, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following retirement effective July 1, 2008:

Captain Vincent J. Ellis, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, retires after 36 years of dedicated service.

Ellis was appointed to the Patrol on July 2, 1972, as a member of the 41st Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy in Jefferson City, MO, he was assigned to Troop F, Zone 4, Camdenton. In 1984, Ellis was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Troop F, Zone 3, Columbia, MO. He was promoted to sergeant and designated zone supervisor of Troop F, Zone 10, Boone County, in 1987. Ellis was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to Troop A, Lee’s Summit, MO, in 1990. In 2001, he was promoted to captain and designated commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit.

Ellis was born in Hermann, MO, and graduated from Hermann High School. He served honorably in the United States Army from June 1968 to June 1971. He earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice administration from Drury College, in Springfield, MO, in 1980. While an active member of the Patrol, Ellis attended the National Traffic Management Institute in Warrensburg, MO, in 1983, and the FBI National Academy in 1992.

Captain Ellis is married to Ann (Zumsteg) and they have two grown children: Jennifer and Nathan, and two grandchildren: Isobel and Annie, with a third grandchild due in August 2008.
