EMPHASIS: Sgt. William D. “Rusty” Bourg Retires

Colonel James F. Keathley, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the retirement of Sgt. William D. “Rusty” Bourg effective August 1, 2007. Sgt. Bourg served the citizens of Missouri as a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol for 33 years.

Sgt. Bourg retires as an instructor in the Training Division at General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO. He has been dedicated to training 1,224 recruits during his 25 years at the Academy.

Sgt. Bourg started his career with the Highway Patrol on September 1, 1974, when he reported to the Law Enforcement Training Academy in Jefferson City, Missouri. Upon graduation he was assigned to Troop C, Zone 8, St. Charles County. He transferred to the Training Division on September 15, 1982. He was promoted to the rank of corporal in February 1985, and promoted to sergeant in August 1987.

During his tenure, Sgt. Bourg was the catalyst in the creation and maintenance of the Patrol’s Emergency Vehicle Operation Course in Jefferson City, MO. He is also a charter member of the Missouri State Trooper’s Association, which was formed in 1981. Sgt. Bourg served as the president of that organization from 1989 to 1999.

Sgt. Bourg was born in St. Louis, MO, and attended Riverview Gardens High School in St. Louis. He attended Arkansas State University, in Jonesboro, AR, where he played baseball, and earned a degree in physical education and health. He is a member of the Arkansas State University Hall of Fame. He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox baseball organization, and spent two seasons in the “A” Midwest league, and two seasons in the “AA” Southern league, as a pitcher. Sgt. Bourg has been the head baseball coach at the St. Elizabeth High School since 2001.

Sgt. Bourg is married to Debbie (Nintemann), from St. Louis, MO. They have two grown children and four grandchildren.
