EMPHASIS: 2015 July Fourth Traffic Crash And Enforcement Totals For Troop B Area

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the 2015 July Fourth traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop B area, which consists of the 16 northeast counties of Missouri. From July 2, 2015 through July 5, 2015, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). As an added enforcement effort Troop B officers conducted a 20-Mile Trooper operation on U.S. Highways 24, 36, and 63 on Thursday, July 2, 2015, and Sunday, July 5, 2015.
Preliminary enforcement totals show troopers issued 338 citations for exceeding the posted speed limit, 94 citations for seat belt violations, and 989 warnings. Troopers also made six arrests for driving while intoxicated, one arrest for boating while intoxicated, and 12 drug arrests, and assisted 305 motorists. During the holiday period, Troop B officers investigated 12 traffic crashes in which one individual was killed and eight were injured.
“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and always wear their seat belts,” stated Captain Wilt.
Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
