EMPHASIS: Monroe City Resident Presented With Honorary Trooper Certificate

On December 23, 2017, Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, presented Monroe City resident Steven Williams with a Missouri State Highway Patrol Honorary Trooper Certificate. The certificate was presented to Mr. Williams in Monroe City with his extended family present. The “Honorary Trooper Certificate” is presented to citizens who are nominated by a trooper for performing in an exemplary manner, under dangerous conditions, to aid another person, or when they unselfishly give of themselves to assist troopers in the performance of their duties.

On August 8, 2017, Mr. Williams was driving his personal vehicle in Marion County. Mr. Williams observed a Missouri State Trooper involved in a physical altercation with an intoxicated subject who was actively resisting arrest. Mr. Williams unselfishly stopped his car and intentionally placed himself in a dangerous situation to provide help to a trooper in need. Mr. Williams helped the trooper physically restrain the suspect so he could be placed in handcuffs ending the altercation. The trooper stated, “Mr. Williams was quick moving and decisive in his actions. He displayed a level of unselfishness which all Patrol members strive to reach every day.”

The trooper and the suspect sustained minor injuries in the altercation. “There is no doubt Mr. Williams risked his own safety and well-being to aid a Missouri State Trooper in need” stated Captain Wilt. “The help of Mr. Williams insured a quick end to the altercation and prevented greater injury to the trooper or the suspect.” The honorary trooper certificate is a token of the Patrol’s appreciation for helping a trooper in need.

The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober. “Don’t Violate The Trust.”
