EMPHASIS: Troop E "Pass With Care" Operations for April

Captain George Ridens, Commanding Officer, Troop E, Missouri State Highway Patrol, announced today that Troop E will participate in “Pass With Care” projects during the month of April 2005. The operation is designed to educate the public and enforce the 2002 statute that protects police officers and other emergency responders working alongside our highways.

According to Captain Ridens, “We’ve done our best to let the public know about the slow down, move over statute, but our troopers continue to have too many close calls. Our goal this April is not to write every motorist a citation, but to make Missouri roadways safer for the emergency workers and police officers who must stand on or near the highway to do their job. If you see the lights, please slow down and move over.”

Troop E has approximately twenty operations planned for the month of April and will concentrate their efforts to Interstate 55, Interstate 57, US 60, US 67, and MO 25.

If motorists have questions concerning this statute or other issues concerning the Missouri State Highway Patrol, they are encouraged to contact Sergeant L.W. Plunkett, Jr., Public Information and Education Officer for Troop E at 573-840-9500.
