EMPHASIS: Troop E Labor Day C.A.R.E. Totals

Captain George Ridens, Commanding Officer of Troop E, released the C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) totals for the 13 county area of Southeast Missouri. The C.A.R.E. counting period began at 6:00 p.m. Friday, September 2, and ended at midnight on Monday, September 5, 2005.

During the period troopers investigated two fatality accidents resulting in two fatalities, arrested 22 individuals for DWI, investigated 9 alcohol related traffic crashes, issued 359 speed citations, 465 speed warnings, 181 seat belt summonses, 9 child restraint violations, and provided assistance to 192 motorists.

Captain Ridens added, “We regret that two motorists lost their lives in Southeast Missouri over the Labor Day weekend, but we appreciate the effort of our troopers and commercial vehicle officers who worked over the weekend to promote safety on the roadways. I would encourage everyone to drive defensively, drive sober and to wear their seat belt each time they enter the roadway. No one expects to be in a fatality crash, but we investigate them all too often.”
