EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop Results in Drug Arrests

On July 02, 2006, at 1:34 a.m., a Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper working a sobriety checkpoint at the intersection of U.S. 63 and Mo. 17 initiated a traffic stop on a 2006 Buick Lucerne, which was occupied by two male subjects. In the course of the enforcement contact, the officer became suspicious and asked the driver for permission to search the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle produced a plastic bag containing approximately one pound of cocaine.

As a result, both individuals were arrested on charges of felony drug trafficking, second degree, and felony possession of a controlled substance. The subjects, identified as Javon C. James, 30, Springfield, Missouri and Corey S. Cole, 29, St. Louis, Missouri, are being held at the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, each on $75,000 Bond.

The approximate street value of the cocaine is $150,000.

The charges for which these individuals were arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
