EMPHASIS: Officer-Involved Shooting In Poplar Bluff

At 11:55 a.m. on December 12, 2014, the Poplar Bluff (MO) Police Department received a call regarding a stabbing that had occurred on Lester Street. Officers and emergency medical services responded to the location. The stabbing victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
Officers were able to gather information leading to a potential suspect and his possible location. As a result, officers responded to an apartment building at 201 South Broadway. As officers entered the common hallway of the building, they were confronted by a subject with a knife. Officers ordered the subject to drop the knife. He did not comply and charged at officers still holding the knife. A Poplar Bluff officer fired his weapon at the subject, fatally injuring him. The subject’s name is not being released until next of kin is notified.

The officer-involved shooting investigation is being conducted by members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control at the request of the Poplar Bluff Police Department and the Butler County coroner.
