EMPHASIS: Holiday Totals For Troop E


Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, Poplar Bluff, announces the traffic crash and DWI enforcement totals for both Christmas and New Year’s counting periods for the 13-county Troop E area.
During the Christmas counting period, which began at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 23, 2010, and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, December 26, 2010, Troop E officers investigated 47 crashes that resulted in seven injuries and one fatality. Troopers also made four arrests for driving while intoxicated. Over the same period in 2009, officers assigned to Troop E investigated 32 crashes, which resulted in five fatalities and 24 injuries. In 2009, troopers made five arrests for driving while intoxicated.
During the New Year’s counting period, which began at 6:00 p.m., Friday December 31, 2010, and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2011, Troop E officers investigated 27 crashes, which resulted in 11 injuries and no fatalities. During the longer 2009 counting period Troop E officers investigated 21 crashes resulting in eight injuries and no fatalities. During that period, troopers made 14 arrests for driving while intoxicated.
Captain Ridens stated, “We are fortunate to announce we had a decrease in fatalities this year in Troop E ending with 72, which is decrease of two from 2009. We, the motoring public, need to continue to keep our roadways safe by paying attention, obeying traffic laws, not drinking and driving, and always buckling up.”
