EMPHASIS: Troop E Announces Results Of Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) Enforcement Operations

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, Poplar Bluff, announces the results of Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) enforcement operations conducted on Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau County on March 15, 2016. The enforcement area was selected due to a history of criminal activity along the I-55 corridor as well as a high propensity for commercial vehicle violations.

During the operation, troopers and a Missouri State Highway Patrol commercial vehicle officer stopped 18 commercial vehicles and seven passenger vehicles. Additionally, troopers conducted 17 commercial vehicle inspections which resulted in two vehicles being placed out-of-service. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation.

Exceeded Posted Speed Violations-- 6
Commercial Vehicle Violations -- 3
Seat Belt Violations – 2
Commercial Vehicle Registration Violations -- 2

Troopers also issued 22 warnings for various other offenses during these operations.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
