EMPHASIS: Investigation of an Explosion at a Clandestine Methamphetamine Laboratory

Captain Ronald K. Replogle, Director of the Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC), announces a joint investigation of an explosion at a suspected clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in rural Franklin County. Investigators from the Mineral Area Drug Task Force and the Missouri State Highway Patrol are assisting the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department with the investigation. It appears that three subjects were attempting to manufacture Anhydrous Ammonia when a chemical reaction occurred causing the container to explode injuring two of the subjects involved.

The incident occurred at 1923 Virginia Mines Avenue, near St. Clair, Missouri, at approximately 12:30 a.m., on today’s date. One of the injured subjects was transported to a local hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries. Another subject was arrested and taken to the Franklin County Jail where he is being held on drug related charges. The third subject, who was also injured, fled the scene and is currently being sought in connection with this investigation.

The inherent danger that exists with all aspects of the Methamphetamine problem is never more evident than in instances like this. Current proposed legislation by Governor Blunt that addresses this issue should cripple the ability to manufacture Methamphetamine in the State of Missouri.
