EMPHASIS: Officer-Involved Shooting

Captain Ron Replogle, director of the Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) announces, at the request of the Hermann chief of police and the Gasconade County sheriff an investigation was begun into the shooting death of Gary Lockhart of Hermann, Missouri.

On Saturday August 5, 2006, at approximately 9 p.m., the Hermann Police Department responded to 501 Goethe Street Apartment A, Hermann, Missouri, in reference to a suicidal subject. Lockhart was located in his home holding a shotgun threatening suicide. During the incident, members of the Hermann Police Department and a Deputy from the Gasconade County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and made an attempt to convince Lockhart to disarm. Lockhart refused to comply and pointed his weapon at the officers. The Gasconade County deputy fired his service pistol striking Lockhart. Lockhart was transported to the Hermann area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Troop F DDCC Unit of the Missouri State Highway Patrol is currently investigating details of the incident. Any further information regarding this incident will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
