EMPHASIS: Patrol Visibility

Colonel James F. Keathley, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, would like to inform the public of a recent change regarding patrol vehicles. One hundred forty-two previously unmarked patrol cars now have decals on the side to help increase visibility and further reduce traffic violations. Thus, motorists can expect to identify more marked patrol vehicles on the roadways.

“The Missouri State Highway Patrol has a goal of less than 1,000 traffic fatalities in 2008. We have the opportunity to meet this goal in 2007 as well,” said Colonel James F. Keathley, superintendent of the Patrol. “When the motoring public sees a trooper, they pay closer attention and improve their driving habits making the roadways safer for everyone. We’re saving lives. Help Wanted.”

Motorists are encouraged to contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 1-800-525-5555 or *55 on a cellular phone if faced with a traffic emergency. This emergency number will ring into the nearest Highway Patrol headquarters. Motorists should use this number if their vehicle becomes disabled or they are involved in or witness a traffic crash or crime. They may also use the emergency number if they observe an erratic driver or pass a stranded motorist in need of assistance.
