EMPHASIS: Approaching Anniversary of Leaving the Scene Accident

Captain George Ridens, Commanding Officer of Troop E, would like to remind the public of a leaving the scene accident that occurred at approximately 9:07 am, February 10, 2004 on Interstate 55 in Pemiscot County, Missouri. The pedestrian who was killed, Richard C. Wallis, 47, Patton, Missouri, was conducting construction work at the scene when he was struck by an unknown vehicle. The area was marked for construction at the time of the accident and was located just south of the I-55/I-155 intersection.

The investigation of the accident has yet to determine the identity of the vehicle or driver involved in the crash, but the Patrol remains hopeful that additional information might be available from the public. Captain Ridens commented, “The Missouri State Highway Patrol requests that anyone who has information relevant to this crash investigation contact us immediately. Every family deserves the facts necessary to bring such an event to a close, but we sincerely need the public’s help to meet that goal.” Ridens later added, “It is very possible this crash was unintentional, even unavoidable, but investigators need to make an official determination after all the facts are presented. If you were directly involved, or you simply have information that would be helpful, please give us a call.”

Anyone with information concerning this traffic crash is encouraged to contact Sergeant Larry W. Plunkett, Jr., Public Information and Education Officer for Troop E, at 573-840-9500.
