EMPHASIS: Troop E Announces All American Buckle-Up And Memorial Day Weekend Totals


Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the Memorial Day Weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop E area, which consists of 13 counties in southeast Missouri. The enforcement operations included All American Buckle-Up Week and the Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort).

During the Memorial Day Weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m. on Friday May 23, 2008, and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 26, 2008, Troop E officers investigated 37 traffic crashes, which resulted in 13 injuries, but no fatalities. Troop E officers made 29 arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 474 speeding citations, 216 seat belt summonses, and 12 child restraint citations, and assisted 193 motorists.

During the period covering May 19, 2008, through May 26, 2008, the Patrol participated in the “All American Buckle Up” campaign. As a result of the campaign, Troop E officers issued 320 seat belt summonses and 27 citations for failure to properly secure a child in an approved child restraint seat.

Captain Ridens said, “We want everyone to continue to pay attention, obey traffic laws, and always buckle up.”
