EMPHASIS: 2006 Memorial Day Weekend Traffic Crash and Special Enforcement Operations for Troop I

Captain Randy Becker, Commanding Officer of Troop I, Rolla, announces the Memorial Day Weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for Troop I area, which consists of six counties in south central Missouri. The enforcement operations included All American Buckle Up Week and the (C.A.R.E.) Combined Accident Reduction Effort.

During the Memorial Day Weekend accident counting period, which began on Friday, May 26, 2006 and ended on Monday, May 29, 2006, Troop I officers investigated 34 traffic crashes, which resulted in 12 injuries, but no fatalities. Troop I officers made seven arrests for Driving While Intoxicated, issued 166 speeding summonses, 101 seat belt summonses and assisted 152 motorists.

During the period covering May 22, 2006 through May 29, 2006, the Patrol participated in the “All American Buckle Up” campaign. As a result of the campaign, Troop I officers issued 140 seat belt summonses and six citations for failure to properly secure a child in an approved child restraint seat.

Captain Becker stated, “I am pleased that for the second year in row there were no fatal traffic crashes within the Troop I area. However, if we want to reduce the number of accidents all motorists must be committed to strictly obeying all traffic laws and paying attention to the job of driving.”
