EMPHASIS: Troop E Sobrity Checkpoint Results

Captain George Ridens, Commanding Officer of Troop E, released totals from sobriety checkpoints conducted in Cape Girardeau and Bollinger counties the evening and early morning hours of August 27 and 28, 2005. The locations for these spotchecks were determined based on previous alcohol related arrests and traffic crashes.

The spotchecks resulted in 9 DWI arrests, 4 misdemeanor drug arrests, 1 misdemeanor criminal arrest, 3 seat belt violations, 8 non-moving violations and 61 warnings. The operations were held in cooperation with the Cape Girardeau Police Department and Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Department.

Captain Ridens added, “No one should be injured or killed in a alcohol related traffic crash, but many motorists continue to make the poor decision to drink and drive. Projects such as this help the Patrol remove over 10,000 impaired drivers from the highways each year. We appreciate the cooperation of both Cape Girardeau agencies who assisted in this operation and the many other agencies who continue to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri’s roadways.”
