EMPHASIS: July 4th Holiday C.A.R.E. Totals for Troop E





Captain George Ridens, Commanding Officer for Troop E, has released the C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) totals for the thirteen county region of Southeast Missouri. The counting period began 6pm July 1, 2005 and continued through 11:59pm July 4, 2005.



The troop reported zero fatality accidents during the period, investigated 8 alcohol related accidents, investigated 16 accidents on C.A.R.E. designated highways, and approximately 35 injury accidents (total) throughout the troop. Troopers made 22 DWI arrests, issued 443 speeding citations, 359 speed related warnings, 174 seat belt summonses, 8 child restraint violations, and provided 171 motorists assists.



Captain Ridens added, “We appreciate those motorists who drove safely and helped us prevent the loss of life during the holiday period. We can save even more lives this year if everyone will continue to drive safely, wear their seat belts, and use designated drivers.”



Troop E reports 40 traffic fatalities for the area compared to 57 at the same period last year. Statewide fatality totals for 2005 exceed last year’s comparisons, indicating 610 fatalities compared to 564 at the same period in 2004.
