EMPHASIS: Results Of Troop E DWI Checkpoint In Mississippi County

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the results of a DWI checkpoint conducted in Troop E, in Mississippi County, that began at 10 p.m. on August 2, 2008, and ended at 3 a.m. on August 3, 2008. During the operation troopers were assigned to conduct a sobriety checkpoint at locations known to produce several DWI arrests and accidents.

Troopers made 11 arrests during the shift: three for driving while intoxicated, two minor in possession arrests, one misdemeanor warrant arrest, three misdemeanor drug arrests, one other misdemeanor arrest, and one felony warrant arrest. Traffic citations issued by officers included 11 for seat belt violations, two for no child restraint, two for no driver’s license, three for no insurance, and one non-moving violation. Troopers also issued 78 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation.

Captain Ridens stated, “The impaired driver continues to be a major contributor to serious traffic crashes in southeast Missouri. DWI checkpoints are a part of the Patrol’s effort to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri roadways and the troopers in the Troop E area will continue to pursue this goal.”
