EMPHASIS: Lt. Gregory D. Mason Retires

Colonel James F. Keathley, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following retirement effective July 1, 2008:

Lieutenant Gregory D. Mason, assistant director of Human Resources Division, retires after 29 years of dedicated service.

Mason was appointed to the Patrol on August 1, 1978, as a member of the 48th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy in Jefferson City, MO, he was assigned to Troop A, Zone 6, Liberty. In October 1992, Mason was assigned as a public information and education officer at Troop A. He was promoted to corporal in 1993, and to sergeant in 1995. Mason was promoted to lieutenant in 1998 and transferred to Troop F, Jefferson City. In 2004, he transferred from Troop F to the Human Resources Division.

Mason was born in Kansas City, KS, and graduated from Manual High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He served honorably in the United States Army from September 1974 to September 1977. He earned an associate’s of arts degree from Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, MO, in 1983; a bachelor’s of science degree in criminal justice from Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph in 1989; and a master’s degree in public affairs from Park University in Parkville in 1996. While a member of the Patrol, Mason attended the Northwest University School of Police Staff and Command in Jefferson City in 1997. He still serves in the Army National Guard and recently returned from serving in Iraq.

Lieutenant Mason is married to Carla (Smith) and they have three sons: Gregory Jr., Derrick, and Westley.
