EMPHASIS: Patrol Announces New Safety Video

Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, is pleased to inform the public about the agency’s newest traffic safety video “Permanent”. A gut wrenching series of photographs accompany accounts of real life experiences in order to showcase the unchangeable results and effects of traffic crashes. Popular songs add to the impact of the video.
“This new video stresses the importance of paying attention when you drive, being a sober driver, driving an appropriate speed, and wearing a seat belt,” said Col. Replogle. “It is hoped the audience will hear the interviews, see the crash photos, and realize that the changes brought about by a traffic crash can be devastating and permanent.”
The video contains graphic traffic crash pictures investigated by the Patrol. Interviews include young people who have been involved in a crash and family members who have lost a loved one in a Missouri traffic crash. In one of the interviews, the mother of a young lady who was killed and the girl’s friend who was in the car give separate views of the same crash. Roush Racing driver Carl Edwards also speaks to the audience in the video. Mr. Edwards discusses the importance of driving the speed limit, paying attention, driving sober, and wearing a seat belt.
The Patrol’s public information and education officers, who are assigned to each of the nine troop headquarters, will use this innovative and effective tool as part of a variety of safety presentations. Groups may contact their local troop headquarters to make arrangements. It is hoped this video will reach all drivers, but especially teenagers, and help to reduce teenage deaths in traffic crashes.
Col. Replogle publicly thanks Mr. Thomas Drury, of Bloomsdale Excavating, Mr. Charlie Kruse, president of the Missouri Farm Bureau Federation, and Mr. Rick Mooney, executive director of Operation Lifesaver, for donating funds for the cost of the video. The video would not have been possible without their generosity. He also thanks those who provided interviews for the video, the Roush Racing team, and the Patrol’s Multimedia Unit, which created the video.
