Captain G.E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, Poplar Bluff, announces the Thanksgiving weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop E area, which consists of 13 southeast counties of Missouri. The five-day counting period began at 6 p.m., on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, and ended at 11:59 p.m., on Sunday, November 25, 2007.
During the 2007 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Troop E officers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). As a result of the long holiday weekend, Troop E officers investigated 51 traffic crashes. Officers made 29 arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 146 speed citations, 78 seat belt citations, and five child restraint citations, and assisted 178 motorists.
Captain Ridens stated, “The Thanksgiving holiday is the most traveled holiday of the year and I am very pleased to say we did not have any fatalities in Troop E this year. Remember to buckle up, pay attention, obey the speed limit, don’t drink and drive. Help us save lives.”
