EMPHASIS: 2008 Labor Day Holiday Weekend Traffic Crash And Special Enforcement Operations Totals For Troop E



Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, Poplar Bluff, announces the 2008 Labor Day holiday weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop E area, which consists of 13 counties in Southeast Missouri. During this holiday period, the Missouri State Highway Patrol also participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). Troop E officers working the U.S. Highway 60 and Interstate 55 corridor also participated in the “15-Mile Trooper Project”. During this statewide project, troopers worked 12-hour shifts patrolling 15-mile intervals on major highways and interstates in Missouri on Friday, August 29, 2008, and Monday September 1, 2008.
During the 2008 Labor Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which begin on Friday, August 29, 2008, and ended on Monday, September 1, 2008, Troop E officers investigated 36 traffic crashes, but no fatalities. Troop E officers made 27 driving while intoxicated arrests, and issued 369 summonses for speeding, 185 seat belt summonses, and eight child restraint summonses. Troopers also assisted 200 motorists.
