Troop B Prepares For Memorial Weekend
Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces upcoming plans for Troop B troopers to participate in Operation C.A.R.E. and peak travel crash reduction enforcement programs over the 2017 Memorial Day weekend.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash
Awareness and Reduction Effort) during the long holiday weekend. This means every available trooper will be on the road enforcing traffic laws and assisting motorists.
Additionally, Troop B troopers will be conducting a peak travel crash reduction operation on U.S. Highways 24, 61, and 63 throughout the Troop B area on May 26, 2017, and May 29, 2017. During this enforcement program, troopers will be assigned to 20-mile intervals on these heavily traveled roadways in an effort to step up traffic enforcement with a goal of reducing traffic crashes over the holiday weekend. This year's Memorial Day weekend counting period is from 6 p.m., on Friday, May 26, 2016, to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 29, 2017.
Troopers will also be out in full force on area lakes and rivers promoting safety on our beautiful waterways. Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to the boating season. Boating is a great recreational opportunity in our state and troopers want to encourage boaters to enjoy their time on the water safely. Troop B marine operation troopers will be diligently enforcing all boating violations; especially careless boat operating and boating while intoxicated. Never operate a boat while you are impaired; never ride with an impaired operator. Please be courteous to others on the water, wear a life jacket, and obey the law regarding safe operation of a vessel and no wake zones. Troopers will also be available to help boaters in need of assistance.
Watercraft operators must consider the effect their actions have on others: Share the waterway and use common sense, good judgment, and courtesy to ensure the safety of all. Life jackets save lives. Wear It!!
“Memorial Day is the first long holiday weekend of the year and many people will be traveling on Missouri roadways and enjoying our lakes, streams, and rivers,” stated Captain Wilt. “I would like to urge all motorists to make sure safe driving is a part of your plans. Make sure everyone is wearing a seat belt or life jacket, and never drink and drive or operate a boat while impaired."
The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober.
“Don’t Violate The Trust.”
