EMPHASIS: Missouri State Highway Patrol's investigation of Lincoln County Deputy shooting

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on October 23, 2005, a deputy from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department initiated a traffic stop for speeding. A short pursuit ensued and the suspect vehicle attempted to elude the officer by pulling into a subdivision and stopping in a private driveway. A short time after the pursuit ended, the deputy fired two shots from his duty weapon, killing the driver, Tyler Brent Teasley and left rear passenger, Michael Douglas Brown Jr.

Within minutes after the incident occurred Lincoln County Sheriff Dan Torres requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control to conduct the investigation.

At this time, the investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control, which is fact-based and impartial, is ongoing. Unless unforeseen circumstances arise, the investigation is tentatively scheduled to be completed within the next two weeks. This timeline is dependant upon the completion of laboratory reports, including ballistics tests and autopsy laboratory test results, and investigative reports. Upon completion, the investigation reports will be turned over to a special prosecutor, which has been requested in the case. The special prosecutor will then review the case.
