EMPHASIS: Results Of Troop E DWI Saturation

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the results of a Driving
While Intoxicated Saturation conducted in Troop E on July 14, 2007. During the operation troopers were assigned to patrol highways that, historically, have experienced a higher number of traffic crashes and hazardous moving violations.
Troopers made 17 arrests during the shift: ten arrests for driving while intoxicated, four of those arrests were felony arrests, and seven other misdemeanor arrests. Traffic citations issued by officers included 12 summonses for speeding, nine for seat belt violations, three for no driver’s license, one hazardous moving violation, two for careless and imprudent driving, one for failed to yield right of way, one for no proof of insurance, one for failing to signal, as well as seven nonmoving violations. Troopers also issued 80 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation.
Captain Ridens stated, “The impaired driver continues to be a major contributor to serious traffic crashes in southeast Missouri. DWI and hazardous driving saturations are a part of the Patrol’s effort to remove intoxicated and dangerous drivers from Missouri roadways. The troopers in the Troop E area will continue to pursue this goal.”
