EMPHASIS: Sergeant Cindy D. Newton Retires

Colonel James F. Keathley, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the retirement of Sergeant Cindy D. Newton after 25 1/2 years of dedicated service. Newton is the first female in the history of the organization to retire as a member of the Patrol. She retires October 1, 2006.

Newton was appointed to the Patrol on January 5, 1981 as a member of the 54th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy in Jefferson City, she was assigned to Troop B, Zone 1, Macon County, on June 5, 1981. In September 1987, she transferred to Troop B, Zone 8, Hannibal. She was promoted to corporal in February 1992, and designated assistant zone commander of Zone 4. In 1996, Newton completed an internship in the Gaming Division and transferred to that division. She was assigned to St. Jo Frontier Casino in St. Joseph, MO. She was promoted to sergeant in 1999. In 2001, Newton transferred to the Isle of Capri Casino in Boonville, MO.

Newton was born in Sedalia, MO. She graduated from Northwest High School in Hughesville, MO, in 1973. Sgt. Newton earned an associate’s of arts degree from State Fair Community College in Sedalia, MO, and a bachelor’s of science degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO.

“This is a historic moment during a historic year,” said Col. Keathley. “Sgt. Newton served and protected the people of Missouri with honor, integrity, and compassion for over 25 years. The Patrol thanks her for her dedication and recognizes the milestone her retirement represents--both for her and the Patrol. We hope Sgt. Newton enjoys many years of retirement.”
