EMPHASIS:
Charges Filed In Officer-Involved Shooting In Wyatt, Missouri
At approximately 9 a.m., on March 10, 2017, deputies with the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant for a narcotics investigation at a residence on Pecan Street in Wyatt, Missouri.
When the deputies entered the residence, a 36-year-old suspect began shooting toward the deputies and the deputies returned fire. During the exchange of gunfire, both the suspect and one deputy were struck. The deputy and the suspect were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries; both have undergone surgery. The deputy is in stable condition; the suspect is in critical, but stable condition.
On March 10, 2017, Johnathan Lee Jones, 36, of Wyatt, Missouri, was charged with assault first degree, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. Jones is currently recovering in a local hospital following surgery due to injuries he received after being shot. Jones is in critical, but stable condition.
Jessica N. Lannom, 29, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance. Lannom is being held at the Mississippi County Jail without bond.
At the request of the Mississippi County sheriff, the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
The above charges are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of these charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
