EMPHASIS: Results Of Troop E DWI Saturation Patrol

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the results of a DWI saturation patrol conducted in Troop E that began on May 5, 2007, at 5 p.m., and ended on May 6, 2007, at 3 a.m. During the operation, troopers were assigned to patrol highways with a past history of higher numbers of traffic crashes and arrests involving alcohol or drug-impaired drivers.

Troopers made 20 arrests during the shift, 10 of which were for driving while intoxicated including one felony driving while intoxicated arrest and one felony drug arrest, and four misdemeanor drug arrests. Traffic citations issued by officers included three summonses for speeding, one for careless and imprudent driving, 12 for seat belt violations, one for failed to yield, two for no driver’s license, and two non-moving violations. Troopers also issued 81 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation.

“The impaired driver continues to be a major contributor to serious traffic crashes in southeast Missouri. DWI saturations are a part of the Patrol’s effort to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri roadways and the troopers in Troop E will continue to pursue this goal,” said Capt. Ridens.
