The enforcement operations included All American Buckle-Up Week and the Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort).

During the Memorial Day Weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday May 25, 2009, Troop E officers investigated 36 traffic crashes, which resulted in 17 injuries and one fatality. Troop E officers made 15 arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 402 speed citations, 187 seat belt summonses, and 20 child restraint citations, and assisted 201 motorists.

During the period covering May 18, 2009, through May 25, 2009, the Patrol participated in the “All American Buckle Up” campaign. As a result of the campaign, Troop E officers issued 331 seat belt summonses and 19 citations for failure to properly secure a child in an approved child restraint.

Captain Ridens said, “Unfortunately, we lost another life in Troop E this weekend. I want to remind everyone to continue to pay attention, obey traffic laws, buckle up, and don’t drink and drive.”
