EMPHASIS: Results Of Troop E Interstate 57 Operation With Illinois Law Enforcement

Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the results of an Interstate 57 Operation with Illinois State Police and local Illinois law enforcement conducted on May 25, 2007.

During this I-57 Operation, members of Troop E; Illinois State Police Districts 10, 13, 21, and 22; and local Illinois agencies--Alexander County Sheriff’s Department, Cairo Police, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, Mounds Police, Ullin Police, and Union County Sheriff’s Department--conducted a joint operation along Interstate 57 in Missouri and Illinois. This joint operation was an effort to reduce traffic crashes on I-57 from where it intersects with Interstate 55 in Missouri to Chicago, Illinois. Officers working the enforcement operation were looking for violations that created substantial risks to the motoring public. Officers from both agencies issued 867 citations and 357 warnings. Officers made two driving while intoxicated arrests, one misdemeanor drug arrest, and one misdemeanor warrant arrest; issued 477 speed citations and 199 occupant restraint citations; and assisted 81 motorists.

“Special enforcement operations such as these are very important and effective,” stated Captain Ridens. “Part of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s mission is to reduce injuries and fatalities on our highways. We know many lives could be saved if the motoring public would buckle up and obey all traffic laws.”
