Troop B Announces Retirement Of Sergeant Eldon L. Grissom
Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces effective August 1, 2018, Sergeant Eldon L. Grissom will retire from the Missouri State Highway Patrol after over 28 years of dedicated service.
Sergeant Grissom was appointed to the Patrol on January 1, 1990, as a member of the 62nd Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol Academy, he was assigned to Troop B, Zone 4, Putnam and Sullivan counties. On October 1, 1993, he transferred to Zone 5, Adair and Schuyler counties. On January 1, 1996, Grissom was promoted to corporal and designated the assistant zone commander of Zone 5. On January 1, 2013, he was promoted to sergeant and designated the zone commander of Zone 4, Putnam and Sullivan counties. It is from this assignment that Grissom retires.
During his tenure Grissom was involved in numerous noteworthy incidents including being the officer in charge of a commuter plane crash in rural Adair County that garnered national news media attention. He was assigned to numerous details across the state including a presidential detail, state fair detail, and the Ferguson, Missouri, detail. He was also a field training officer for three newly appointed troopers during his career.
Sergeant Grissom is a native of Kirksville, Missouri, and graduated from Kirksville High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. He is married to Mindy (Maloney) and they have three children: Dreyton, Devan, and Morgan.
The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober.
“Don’t Violate The Trust.”
