Troop H: Attempted Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Seizure In Holt County
At approximately 1:35 p.m. on March 26, 2017, a state trooper attempted to stop a southbound 2017 Dodge Charger on Interstate 29 at the 79-mile marker in Holt County, when the vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The driver, Charles E. Jones, of Denver, Colorado, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a guardrail at the 70-mile marker and was taken into custody. Jones was transported by Holt County Ambulance to Mosaic Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri, for injuries sustained from the crash.
Circumstances led the trooper to search the vehicle and that search revealed 26 pounds of marijuana. Jones was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Jones was admitted to Mosaic Hospital for injuries sustained during the crash and is currently listed in serious but stable condition.
The charge for which the above person was arrested is mere accusations and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the above charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
