EMPHASIS: Results Of Troop E DWI Checkpoint In Stoddard And Dunklin Counties



Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the results of a DWI checkpoint conducted in Troop E, Stoddard and Dunklin counties, that began on June 23, 2007, at 10 p.m., and ended on June 24, 2007, at 3 a.m. During the operation troopers were assigned to conduct a sobriety checkpoint at locations known to produce several DWI arrests and accidents.

Troopers made five arrests during the shift, one for driving while intoxicated, two minor in possession, one misdemeanor drug arrest, and one other misdemeanor arrests. Traffic citations issued by officers included six for seat belt violations, one for no child restraint, one for no driver’s license, and five non-moving violations. Troopers also issued 87 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation. A total of 239 vehicles were stopped as well as four commercial vehicles. Officers conducted 15 field sobriety checks.

Captain Ridens stated, “The impaired driver continues to be a major contributor to serious traffic crashes in southeast Missouri. DWI saturations are a part of the Patrol’s effort to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri roadways and the troopers in the Troop E will continue to pursue this goal.”
