EMPHASIS: Sgt. George M. “Mike” Rutherford Retires



Colonel Roger D. Stottlemyre, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following retirement:



On July 1, 2005, Sergeant George M. “Mike” Rutherford will retire after 26 years of dedicated service as a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.



Mike began his career with the Patrol on January 15, 1979, as a member of the 49th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Academy, he was assigned to Troop C, Zone 2, North St. Louis County. While assigned to Troop C, Mike also served as a member of the Troop C SERT. Mike transferred to General Headquarters in May 1990, and was assigned to the Governor’s Security Division. In 1992, he was promoted to corporal, and in 1997, he was promoted to sergeant. During Mike’s time with the Governor’s Security Division he has provided security for five governors, including Governors Matt Blunt, Bob Holden, Roger Wilson, Mel Carnahan, and John Ashcroft. In that capacity, he traveled with Missouri governors throughout the United States and to several foreign countries.



Mike resides in Jefferson City with his wife, Cindi. He has two children, Susan Crowe, and Chris Rutherford. Susan also lives in Jefferson City. Chris just graduated from Truman State University and is still on the move! His granddaughter, Stephanie, is also of Jefferson City.
