EMPHASIS: Patrol Announces Retirement


Colonel James F. Keathley, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following retirement effective January 1, 2009:

Captain M. Barry Lindsey, director of the Training Division, retires after 29 years of dedicated service.

Lindsey was appointed to the Patrol on January 1, 1980, as a member of the 51th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy in Jefferson City, MO, he was assigned to Troop A, Zone 11, Warsaw, MO. On December 1, 1987, Lindsey transferred to the Governor’s Security Division. He transferred to the Training Division on May 1, 1990. Later that same year, he was promoted to corporal. Lindsey was promoted to sergeant in 1992. In 1995, he returned to the Governor’s Security Division. He was designated director of that division in October 1997, and promoted to lieutenant in May 1998. Lindsey transferred to the Training Division as an assistant director in March 2000. He was promoted to captain and named director of that division on February 1, 2007.

Lindsey was born in St. Louis, MO. He graduated from Jenks Senior High School in Jenks, OK. Lindsey earned an associate’s of arts degree from State Fair Community College, Sedalia, MO, in 1984; a bachelor’s of science degree in criminal justice from Lincoln University, Jefferson City, MO, in 1986; and a master’s of arts degree in sociology/criminal justice in 1990. Captain Lindsey and his wife, Marilyn (Estes), live in Jefferson City, MO. He has three grown children: Matthew Jr., Adam, and Zachary.
