EMPHASIS: Announcement Of Sobriety Checkpoint To Be Held In St. Francois County

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, St. Louis, announces that sometime during the month of April 2007, a sobriety checkpoint will be held in St. Francois County. The checkpoint will be conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies and will utilize the Patrol’s BAT van (Breath Alcohol Testing Vehicle).

“Driving while intoxicated continues to be one of the major causes of traffic fatalities in Missouri,” stated Captain Johnson. “Each year approximately 25 percent of all fatal crashes are alcohol related. Sobriety checkpoints have proven to be an effective way to detect and remove those dangerous drivers from our highways.”

If you suspect a motorist of driving while intoxicated, call the Missouri State Highway Patrol on the toll free emergency number 1-800-525-5555 or cellular *55.
