EMPHASIS: Colonel Ron Replogle Announces Captain I. David Smith Retires September 1, 2012.

Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the retirement of Captain I. David Smith, director of Human Resources Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, effective September 1, 2012.

Captain Smith is a 29-year veteran of the Patrol. After graduation from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy in 1983, he was initially assigned to Troop H, Zone 1, Atchison/Holt counties. On November 1, 1987, he transferred to Troop H, Zone 7, Clinton/Daviess/DeKalb counties. He was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Troop H, Zone 8, Clinton/Daviess/DeKalb counties, on June 1, 1990. Smith was promoted to sergeant on January 1, 1992, and designated zone supervisor of Troop H, Zone 1, Atchison/Holt counties. From February 1, 1993 until June 1, 1998, Smith served as the public information and education officer for Troop H, St. Joseph, MO. On June 1, 1998, Smith was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to Troop A, Lee’s Summit. He was promoted to captain and designated director of Human Resources Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, on September 1, 2011. It is from this position that he retires.

Capt. Smith was born in Lathrop, MO. He graduated from Lathrop High School in 1978. He holds both an associate’s of science degree and bachelor’s of science degree from Missouri Western State College. Capt. Smith is married to Vonda K. (Larkin) of Lexington, MO. He has two sons, Jeffrey and Blake.
