EMPHASIS:
2016 Labor Day Weekend Enforcement And Traffic Crash Totals
Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the 2016 Labor Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop B area, which consists of the 16 northeast counties of Missouri. During the holiday weekend, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort), and a holiday traffic crash reduction enforcement operation on U.S. Highways 24, 61, and 63 throughout the Troop B area, on Friday, September 2, 2016, and Monday, September 5, 2016.
During the 2016 Labor Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m., Friday, September 2, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, September 5, Troop B officers investigated 17 traffic crashes resulting in 10 injuries and two fatalities. The fatality traffic crash occurred September 3, 2016, in Marion County. Preliminary enforcement totals show
officers issued 448 citations for exceeding the speed limit, 69 citations for seat belt violations, made one arrest for boating while intoxicated and four arrests for driving while intoxicated, and issued 739 warnings. There were no boating crashes in the Troop B area during the holiday weekend.
“Even though this major holiday period has ended, we want to urge motorists to continue to drive safely and always wear their seat belts,” stated Captain Wilt.
The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober.
“Don’t Violate The Trust.”
