EMPHASIS:
Officer-Involved Shooting In Johnson County
At 1:26 p.m. on February 3, 2020, a police officer with the Lone Jack (Missouri) Police Department was pursuing a vehicle traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 50. The pursuit continued for several miles into Johnson County, Missouri. At 1:37 p.m., a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper deployed spike strips and the suspect vehicle struck the spikes. The vehicle then traveled off the highway and struck a ditch on the north side of the roadway. The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect exited his vehicle with a long gun and presented it in a threatening manner. At 1:39 p.m., the trooper, fearing for his safety, fired his weapon striking the suspect. The suspect was transported by an air ambulance to a hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. The trooper was not injured. The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control.
