EMPHASIS: Major A. Dale Penn Retires June 1, 2010


Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following retirement effective June 1, 2010:

Major A. Dale Penn, commander of the Field Operations Bureau, will retire after more than 36 years of dedicated service to the people of Missouri.

Penn was appointed to the Patrol on November 1, 1973, as a member of the 42nd Recruit Class. Upon graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy in 1974, he was assigned to Troop D, Zone 5, Carthage, MO. He was promoted to the rank of corporal in 1985, and was designated assistant zone commander of Troop D, Zone 1, Springfield. In 1987, Penn was promoted to sergeant and designated supervisor of Troop D’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section. He was designated zone commander of Troop D, Zone 11, Carthage, MO, in 1990. In 1992, he was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to Troop B, Macon, MO. He was promoted to captain and named commanding officer of Troop G, Willow Springs, MO, in 1994. Penn was transferred to Troop B, Macon, in 1995, as commanding officer of that troop. In 1999, Penn was promoted to the rank of major and designated commander of the Support Services Bureau, General Headquarters, Jefferson City. He became the commander of the Field Operations Bureau, General Headquarters, in 2004.

Penn was born in Noel, MO, and graduated from McDonald County R-I High School in Anderson, MO, in 1970. Prior to joining the Patrol, he attended Missouri Southern State College in Joplin, MO. Major Penn is married to Rhonda E. (Selvey), and they have three children: Dayla, Sarah, and Chelsea.
