EMPHASIS: Troop I Memorial Day Weekend Summary

Captain Randy Becker, Commanding Officer of Troop I in Rolla, is pleased to announce that for the second year in a row there were no fatalities in Troop I over the Memorial Day weekend. However, officers assigned to Troop I investigated 30 accidents over the period, five of which were alcohol related.

In the six-county Troop I area, troopers made 11 arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 146 citations for speeding and made 74 arrests for not wearing a seat belt. Troopers also issued 136 warnings for excessive speed. In addition to investigating accidents and enforcing traffic laws, Troop I officers also made 142 motorists assists for those individuals either broke-down or needing help on our highways.

As the summer months are upon us, Captain Becker would like to encourage all motorists to exercise additional care when traveling. “We must remember”, Captain Becker stated, “the number of vehicles on our highways increase as families embark on their vacations. Patience and courteous driving habits must be practiced by all of us if we want our highways to be as safe as possible.”
