Captain George E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E, announces the July 4th and C.A.R.E. enforcement totals and traffic crashes for Troop E. This year’s traffic crash counting period began at 6 p.m., Tuesday July 3, 2007, and ended at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday July 4, 2007. Troop E officers also participated in Operation C.A.R.E., “Combined Accident Reduction Effort”, which began at 6 p.m., Tuesday July 3, 2007, and ended Sunday July 8, 2007 at 11:59 p.m.

During the July 4th traffic crash counting period troopers assigned to Troop E investigated 13 crashes, resulting in seven injuries, and made six arrests for driving while intoxicated. During the extended C.A.R.E. counting period, Troop E officers investigated 66 crashes, 12 of which were alcohol-related, and one crash resulting in two fatalities. During that same period, Troop E officers made 36 arrests for driving while intoxicated, and issued 340 citations for speeding and 198 for seat belt violations. There were 10 citations issued for failing to have their child properly restrained in a child restraint system.

Captain Ridens stated, “I know holidays are a fun time for all Missourians, but remembering to obey traffic laws, buckling up, and not drinking and driving, can and will save lives. We want the citizens traveling on Missouri highways to be as safe as possible, and we are committed to their safety.”
